Day 1 - YSOP 2013

Contributing daily editor: Caroline Goggins

LOL TODAY WAS GREAT! We loaded the bus at Collegiate and we were off to DC. Marky Mark braved driving the van and Mrs.Albright drove the minivan with her seat heaters on the whole way(slight exaggeration – just took a while to figure out why the seat was so hot)  We finally made it to DC, drove around for a while and enjoyed the beautiful scenery (nice way of saying we took a few wrong turns . . . ) , then finally parked and made our way to the zoo. We frolicked at the zoo for a while, enjoying the wonderful smelling animals and more often than not the serene, beautiful, pristine, and empty cages.  After the zoo we enjoyed a delicious dinner at California Tortilla where CJ broke out in tears over some really great hot sauce. (#10 out of 10 on the hotness scale) We departed the restaurant and arrived at the Church of the Epiphany where we got the house tour and went through orientation. During orientation it became clear we all signed up for the trip because it sounded fun and we really wanted the hours. After we blew up our air mattresses and Catherine was dragged around in a sleeping bag we decided it was time to hit the streets. We found ourselves at McDonalds where we enjoyed a delicious snack of ice cream and smoothies. Nicky especially enjoyed his medium pineapple smoothie. We returned to the Church to witness Peyton jamming the goldfish box back into the pantry. We played black jack late into the night and did some serious gambling with our precious goldfish. Then we hit the hay in anticipation of the exciting day ahead of us.

All aboard! Look out DC - Here we come.

Guess where we are?

New section of the zoo is finally opened; wolf in the American Trail Habitat.

Great place to play on a hot and humid afternoon.

Got a close fly by from this Spoonbill!

Good old-fashioned fun. Game night in the new digs.
